Corpus Christi, Texas – A slow-moving cold front is set to deliver soaking rain across South Texas within the next 24 hours, raising the risk of street flooding and ponding on roads through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, confidence is increasing in widespread rainfall totals exceeding 1 inch, with a 50 to 70 percent chance across much of the region from Saturday through Monday. There is also a 20 to 40 percent chance that some locations pick up more than 2 inches, especially along the Coastal Bend and inland toward Laredo and Victoria.
Cities including Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Alice, and Beeville could see periods of steady rain and embedded thunderstorms, particularly Saturday afternoon through Sunday night. Low-lying roads and poor drainage areas are most vulnerable, especially where dry, compacted soil limits absorption.
While the rainfall is beneficial for drought conditions, isolated flash flooding remains possible. Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and allow extra travel time during heavier downpours.
Rain chances taper early next week, but additional advisories may be issued if heavier bands develop or flooding becomes more widespread.
