Arkansas Weather Alert: Heat Index Up to 115 Degrees Through Tuesday Under Extreme Heat Warning

Little Rock, Arkansas – Dangerous heat will continue to grip Arkansas through at least Tuesday, with heat index values climbing as high as 115 degrees and little overnight relief, prompting an Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, afternoon high temperatures will range from the upper 90s to 105 degrees through Tuesday, while overnight lows remain near 80 degrees, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses by limiting recovery after sunset. Heat index values are forecast to range from 105 to 115 degrees or higher, creating hazardous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Tuesday afternoon for the Mississippi River Delta, parts of northeastern Arkansas, portions of central Arkansas and sections of the Arkansas River Valley, including the Little Rock metro. A Heat Advisory covers the remainder of the state, including western, northern and southern Arkansas.

Communities including Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Jonesboro, Batesville, Brinkley, Stuttgart, Conway, Hot Springs, Russellville and Monticello are expected to experience major to extreme heat risk during the next several days. The prolonged stretch of excessive heat could increase the likelihood of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for older adults, young children, outdoor workers and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

Residents should drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned buildings. Those without air conditioning should use fans only if indoor temperatures remain safe and consider visiting designated cooling centers if available.

The dangerous heat is expected to persist into the middle of the week, and additional heat-related alerts could be issued if temperatures or humidity exceed current forecasts.
