Caribou, Maine – Warm temperatures and abundant sunshine will keep much of Maine feeling more like the peak of summer today, with afternoon highs climbing into the lower to middle 80s across much of the state while chilly Atlantic waters continue to pose a hidden danger along the coast.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, dry weather and light winds will persist through at least Tuesday, providing favorable conditions for outdoor activities. High temperatures will reach the low to mid-80s across northern and central Maine, while overnight lows fall back into the middle 50s. The next opportunity for rain and thunderstorms is expected Wednesday into Thursday.
Communities including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Millinocket, Bangor and surrounding areas can expect mostly sunny skies with only a few fair-weather clouds. Along the Downeast coast, patchy fog may develop during the early morning hours before improving by midday, occasionally reducing visibility for travelers.
A Beach Hazard Statement remains in effect along the Maine coastline as ocean temperatures remain in the lower 50s. Despite the warm air, anyone entering the water faces an increased risk of cold-water shock and hypothermia. Boaters and paddlers should wear life jackets and remain alert for tides, currents and changing wind conditions.
The quiet stretch of weather is expected to continue through the first half of the workweek before showers and thunderstorms become more likely beginning Wednesday. Additional updates or advisories may be issued as that system approaches.
