Duluth, MN – A stretch of hot summer weather will continue across northern Minnesota through the weekend before thunderstorms return Sunday night, with some storms capable of becoming severe.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, temperatures will continue climbing through the weekend, with highs reaching the upper 80s to mid-90s across much of the region. Sunday is expected to be the hottest day, with forecast highs ranging from 89 to 96 degrees under partly to mostly sunny skies.
Saturday’s highs are expected to range from 83 to 92 degrees, while Monday will remain warm with temperatures between 84 and 92 degrees after storms move out of the area.
Forecasters say the next chance for thunderstorms arrives Sunday evening and overnight as a weather system moves into the region. While not every community will experience severe weather, some storms could become strong to severe, bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts, hail, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.
Residents planning outdoor activities this weekend should take precautions against the heat by staying hydrated, limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon, and checking on vulnerable family members and neighbors.
