Trenton, ME – Drivers traveling through Trenton on Friday morning should expect a brief traffic disruption as officials hold a formal dedication ceremony unveiling memorial highway signs honoring Hancock County Deputy Luke Gross.
According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, along Route 3 in Trenton. The event will recognize Deputy Luke Gross with the unveiling of memorial highway signs, drawing law enforcement agencies and community members together for the dedication.
To safely accommodate the ceremony, traffic will be temporarily rerouted at two locations.
The Ellsworth Police Department will direct traffic at the intersection of Beechland Road and Route 3, sending motorists onto Bayside Road. At the same time, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office will detour traffic at the intersection of Jordan River Road and Route 3, routing vehicles onto Jordan River Road.
Officials said the ceremony is expected to last approximately 10 to 15 minutes, after which Route 3 will reopen and traffic will return to its normal flow.
Motorists traveling between Trenton, Ellsworth, Mount Desert Island, and surrounding Hancock County communities are encouraged to allow a few extra minutes for travel if passing through the area around 10 a.m.
The sheriff’s department thanked the public for its patience and cooperation during the brief ceremony honoring the fallen deputy.
