Hastings, Nebraska – Gusty winds up to 30 mph could impact travel and outdoor plans by midday Friday as scattered rain moves into central and eastern Nebraska.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, an upper-level disturbance will bring precipitation chances mainly to northern and eastern parts of the state Friday, with highs ranging from 52°F to 65°F. Winds from the west-northwest will increase to 20 to 30 mph, creating crosswind concerns on highways like U.S. 281 and Interstate 80.
Cities including Grand Island, Kearney, and Hastings may see intermittent showers during the afternoon, though rainfall amounts are expected to remain light and spotty. Drivers should watch for reduced visibility during brief showers and stronger wind gusts.
Conditions turn drier Saturday, but winds remain elevated from the northwest at 20 to 30 mph, keeping temperatures in the low 50s to low 60s. By Sunday, winds ease slightly to around 10 to 15 mph, with highs rebounding into the 60s and near 70°F.
Looking ahead, additional spotty rain chances return early next week with continued breezy conditions.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for shifting wind conditions through the weekend, with further updates possible if rain chances increase Friday.
