Coldwater, MI – One person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Ovid Township, according to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:52 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, to the intersection of Central Road and Quimby Road for a personal injury crash involving two vehicles.
Investigators said a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Juan Paniagua Ireta, 45, of Bronson, was traveling north on Quimby Road when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. The pickup then collided with an eastbound 2023 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Marvin Jenkins, 40, of Bronson.
Jenkins was transported by LifeCare Ambulance to Insight Hospital in Coldwater with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Paniagua Ireta suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The crash remains under investigation, though deputies said the preliminary investigation indicates failure to stop at the posted stop sign was a contributing factor.
Several agencies assisted at the scene, including the Lakeland Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, Branch County Central Dispatch, VIP Auto and Recovery, and First Call Towing.
Motorists are reminded to obey traffic control devices and use extra caution when approaching rural intersections, where stop-sign violations continue to be a leading cause of serious crashes.
