Paducah, Ky. – Western Kentucky and the lower Ohio Valley will enjoy one more stretch of comfortable summer weather before thunderstorms return this weekend and dangerous heat builds early next week. The pleasant conditions through Friday will provide a brief break before temperatures surge back into the upper 90s.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, cooler, less humid air will remain in place through Friday, with afternoon highs ranging from 78 to 86 degrees. The comfortable weather will make for favorable conditions for outdoor activities, travel and community events across western Kentucky, southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and southwest Indiana.
The weather pattern begins to change Friday night, when showers and thunderstorms return to the region. Storm chances will continue through Saturday night, with the greatest opportunity for rainfall occurring during that period. While widespread severe weather is not currently expected, thunderstorms could produce frequent lightning, brief heavy downpours and localized travel disruptions.
By Monday and Tuesday, a much hotter and more humid air mass will overspread the region. Afternoon highs are forecast to reach 94 to 99 degrees, with humidity likely pushing heat index values well above the actual air temperature. The prolonged heat will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or spending extended time outdoors.
Residents should take advantage of the cooler weather through Friday before preparing for the return of dangerous heat. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon and monitor forecast updates as both weekend storm chances and early-week heat become more defined.
