Little Rock, Ark. – Arkansas will enjoy a few more days of relatively comfortable summer weather before a prolonged stretch of dangerous heat returns beginning Sunday. Temperatures are expected to climb steadily through the weekend, with widespread upper 90s arriving early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, comfortable conditions will continue through Saturday, with warm afternoons and seasonable overnight lows. Thursday’s highs will generally range from the mid-80s in northern Arkansas to the lower and middle 90s across central, southern and western portions of the state. Overnight lows into Friday morning will fall into the upper 60s across the Ozarks and lower to middle 70s elsewhere.
Communities including Little Rock, Hot Springs, Pine Bluff, Russellville, Searcy, Fort Smith, Texarkana, El Dorado and Monticello are expected to reach around 90 to 94 degrees Thursday, while Harrison and Mountain Home remain in the mid to upper 80s.
The warming trend accelerates over the weekend. By Sunday, highs are expected to push into the middle to upper 90s across much of Arkansas, with the hot pattern continuing into next week. Overnight temperatures will also trend warmer, providing less relief after sunset.
While rain chances remain limited through Saturday, isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop in parts of the state early next week as the heat builds.
Residents should use the next few days to prepare for the return of intense summer heat by staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon and ensuring pets and vulnerable neighbors have access to cool environments.
