Fort Wayne, IN – Floodwaters are rising across northern Indiana and northwest Ohio, with multiple rivers already spilling over banks and threatening roads, homes, and farmland through the weekend into early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, several Flood Warnings remain in effect, including moderate flooding along the St. Joseph River near Newville, where water levels are expected to crest near 15.0 feet early Monday—well above the 12.0-foot flood stage. This could flood DeKalb County Road 42 and surrounding low-lying areas .
In Fort Wayne, the Maumee River is forecast to rise to nearly 19.7 feet by early Monday, approaching levels where evacuations may be needed in vulnerable areas like River Haven. Nearby, the Maumee River near Defiance and Napoleon is already causing roadway flooding, with water covering streets near key routes including State Routes 424 and 281.
Additional rivers, including the St. Marys, Tiffin, and Eel rivers, are also experiencing minor flooding, impacting farmland, residential areas, and rural roads across the region.
Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and never bypass barricades. Water levels will fluctuate into early next week, with additional updates expected Friday morning as conditions evolve.
