San Angelo, Texas – Storms capable of producing 2-inch hail and flooding rainfall are expected to develop within hours Friday, raising concerns for road safety and property damage across West Central Texas by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, isolated to scattered thunderstorms will begin forming by late morning or early afternoon Friday, intensifying through the evening and continuing overnight. A slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe storms is in place, especially north toward Abilene and Haskell, where large hail and damaging winds between 50 and 60 mph are most likely.

Rainfall totals could exceed 1 inch in localized areas, particularly in low-lying and urban locations, increasing the risk of street flooding. Cities including San Angelo, Abilene, Brownwood, and Sweetwater may see rapidly changing conditions, especially along U.S. 87, U.S. 277, and area farm-to-market roads where water can collect quickly.

Residents should avoid driving across flooded roadways, secure outdoor items ahead of storms, and prepare for lightning and brief power outages. Storm activity will peak during the late afternoon and evening hours before gradually weakening overnight.

The threat continues into early Saturday morning, and additional watches or warnings may be issued as storm development becomes more widespread.
