Kankakee, IL – The Kankakee Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying two individuals and locating potential witnesses following an incident that occurred during a community event Sunday evening.
According to the Kankakee Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at a park during the Heal the Hood community event.
Investigators are seeking to identify an individual described as wearing a tan hat, green shirt, and black shorts, who police allege intentionally tripped a Kankakee police officer during a foot pursuit. Authorities are also attempting to identify an individual wearing a white shirt and white pants, who police say allegedly broke free from an officer’s custody and fled the scene.
Police said a video of the incident accompanies the department’s social media post and may assist members of the public in recognizing the individuals involved.
In addition to identifying the two individuals, investigators are asking anyone who attended the event and may have witnessed what occurred to come forward with information.
The department said Heal the Hood is intended to bring families together in a safe and positive environment and noted that incidents interfering with law enforcement’s ability to maintain public safety are taken seriously.
