Nebraska – Rain streaks across windshields and gray skies hang low over Omaha as thunderstorms begin organizing, with stronger cells expected to develop within the next few hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, widespread rain continues this morning, with thunderstorms expected to intensify between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A few storms may produce hail up to quarter size, especially across southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa.

Across the Omaha–Council Bluffs metro, drivers along I-80 and I-29 should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Water may pool quickly on roadways during heavier bursts. Gusty winds could also accompany storms, briefly impacting travel across open stretches near the Missouri River.

Meteorologists now tracking additional storm chances into Friday, with rain coverage near 80% and the potential for a few stronger storms in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. While not every storm turns severe, lightning and brief heavy rain will remain concerns.

Conditions begin to improve heading into the first weekend of April. Saturday brings partial sunshine with highs near 50, though breezy northwest winds could still impact outdoor plans. By Sunday, skies clear with highs climbing into the low 60s, offering a calmer spring feel.

Looking ahead, early next week trends mild with periodic chances for light rain returning by Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures gradually climb into the 50s and 60s, hinting at a broader warm-up.

Storm timing will be critical today. Are you seeing heavier rain or thunder where you are?
