Norman, OK – A tornado watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. EDT Tuesday for much of eastern and northeastern Pennsylvania, including the Philadelphia metro area, as conditions remain favorable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 507 includes 19 Pennsylvania counties. A tornado watch means tornadoes and severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. Residents should remain prepared to act quickly if warnings are issued later today.
The watch covers Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Delaware, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Pike, Schuylkill, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties.
Major cities and communities affected include Philadelphia, Reading, Allentown, Bethlehem, Lancaster, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Easton, Norristown, Doylestown, Stroudsburg, Hazleton, Pottsville, and Milford, along with surrounding areas.
Forecasters say storms that develop this afternoon and evening could produce isolated tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, large hail, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and heavy rainfall capable of creating hazardous travel conditions and localized flooding.
Residents across the watch area are encouraged to closely monitor weather updates, enable emergency alerts on mobile devices, and have a safe shelter location identified. If a tornado warning is issued, move immediately to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.
The Storm Prediction Center and local National Weather Service offices will continue to monitor conditions and issue additional warnings as storms evolve throughout the evening.
