New York – Rain is falling steadily across Albany right now, and wet pavement paired with patchy fog is already slowing drivers within minutes of stepping outside.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall continues through midday with a 90% chance of precipitation and visibility occasionally reduced by fog. Winds remain light, but damp air and temperatures near 36°F are keeping roads slick across the Capital Region.

In Albany, Rensselaer, and along I-87 and I-90, drivers should expect reduced visibility and longer commute times. Bridges and overpasses may stay colder, increasing the risk for slick spots. Use headlights and allow extra stopping distance.

Conditions ease slightly later today, but scattered showers and patchy fog may linger into the afternoon. By tonight, a few isolated thunderstorms could develop, though coverage remains limited.

A dramatic warm-up arrives Friday, with highs reaching 67°F. While much of the day stays dry, a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms could briefly disrupt travel. Roads should remain mostly manageable between systems.

The weekend brings a more organized round of rain. Showers increase Saturday afternoon, then become widespread Saturday night into Sunday. Rain chances climb to 90% Sunday, with steady rainfall and reduced visibility expected during peak travel times.

Cooler air returns early next week, with drier conditions and highs falling back into the upper 40s.
