Barrington, IL – A 60-year-old Arlington Heights man is facing a felony charge after police say a man was seriously injured during an assault at the Barrington Metra Station earlier this month.
According to the Barrington Police Department, officers responded to a reported battery at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Barrington Metra Station, 201 Spring St.
When officers arrived, they located a 42-year-old male victim who reported being punched in the face by Timothy A. Kirschner, 60, of the 1100 block of West Rand Road in Arlington Heights. Police said the victim was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries, including head trauma.
Following an investigation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony, against Kirschner.
According to police, Kirschner was taken into custody in accordance with the SAFE-T Act and transported to the Cook County Jail pending a detention hearing scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2026.
The Barrington Police Department did not release additional details about what led to the alleged assault. As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
