Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – A fast-developing severe weather threat is unfolding across much of Oklahoma this evening, with a Tornado Watch in effect until midnight and storms capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 86 covers more than 40 counties, including Oklahoma County, Cleveland County, Canadian County, and Payne County. The watch extends from Lawton and Altus through Oklahoma City and north toward Enid, Stillwater, and Ponca City.
Storms are expected to intensify through the evening and move east across key corridors including I-35, I-40, and I-44. The highest risk window runs through late evening as instability increases, raising the potential for rotating storms and quick tornado development.
Communities including Norman, Edmond, Moore, and Stillwater should be ready to act quickly if warnings are issued. Travel could become hazardous with sudden wind gusts and reduced visibility in heavy rain.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and identify a safe shelter location now. Have multiple ways to receive alerts, especially during overnight hours.
The tornado watch remains in effect until midnight, with additional warnings likely as storms strengthen across Oklahoma tonight.
