Gainesville, FL – Two convicted felons were arrested following an early morning fight at a Gainesville residence that allegedly ended with the theft of a firearm and the recovery of a loaded handgun nearby.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 18, 2026, to the 7300 block of West University Avenue after receiving reports of a fight.
When deputies arrived, they found a victim suffering from facial bruising and lacerations to both hands. While receiving medical treatment, the victim told investigators that a verbal dispute turned physical with 37-year-old Sminaldo Stafford. The victim alleged that 35-year-old Larry Honor pulled Stafford away before both men left the residence.
According to deputies, the victim later discovered a firearm was missing and reported that Stafford had taken the gun when he left with Honor.
Investigators determined that both Stafford and Honor are convicted felons. During the investigation, authorities alleged that the two men hid the victim’s firearm. Deputies later recovered the loaded handgun beneath garbage near a nearby car wash.
Stafford was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, grand theft of a firearm, battery, and tampering with evidence.
Honor was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence.
The allegations against both men have not been proven in court. The investigation remains ongoing.
