Peachtree City, Georgia – Hot and humid conditions will continue across much of Georgia this week, with afternoon heat index values climbing into the 90s and low 100s while scattered thunderstorms develop each day. The combination of heat and humidity will make outdoor activities increasingly uncomfortable, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a warm and humid air mass will remain in place through the upcoming weekend. High temperatures across north and central Georgia are expected to reach the low to mid-90s, while humidity will push feels-like temperatures into the upper 90s and lower 100s.
Major cities including Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Columbus, Rome, Gainesville, Marietta, Griffin, LaGrange, Dalton, Vidalia and Albany are all expected to experience oppressive afternoon heat. While no single day is expected to be a washout, scattered pop-up showers and thunderstorms will develop each afternoon, bringing brief heavy rain, lightning and localized gusty winds before dissipating after sunset.
The storms will provide temporary cooling in some neighborhoods, but many communities will remain hot and humid throughout the day. Anyone spending extended time outdoors should drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Residents should continue monitoring daily forecasts, as isolated stronger thunderstorms and additional heat-related advisories remain possible through the weekend.
