Los Angeles, Calif. – Sunshine is quickly replacing the early morning cloud cover across East Los Angeles, and the air is already beginning to warm. By this afternoon, neighborhoods from Boyle Heights to El Sereno will settle into a classic Southern California summer pattern, with temperatures climbing into the mid-80s before even warmer weather arrives later this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, East Los Angeles will reach a high near 86 degrees Monday under mostly sunny skies. Light south winds will become southwest at 5 to 10 mph during the afternoon, creating only limited relief from the midday warmth.

Today’s weather should make for favorable travel across Interstate 5, Interstate 10, U.S. 101, and State Route 60, although drivers should expect increased pavement temperatures during the afternoon commute. If you’re spending time outdoors, keep water nearby, wear light clothing, and take breaks in the shade during the warmest hours.

The warming trend continues Tuesday with abundant sunshine and a high near 88 degrees. By Wednesday, temperatures hold near 88 degrees under clear skies before climbing again Thursday, when highs are expected to reach 91 degrees. While this isn’t expected to reach advisory levels, residents without air conditioning may begin to notice increasingly warm afternoons.

No rain, thunderstorms, or significant wind events are expected through at least Thursday. The stable weather pattern should also support excellent conditions for construction projects, outdoor recreation, and evening events, with comfortable nighttime lows generally in the upper 60s.

Meteorologists continue monitoring monsoonal moisture over the Southwest, but current projections keep any thunderstorm activity well east of Los Angeles through midweek. The primary story remains the gradual increase in daytime temperatures.

Looking farther ahead, climate outlooks continue to favor above-normal temperatures into late next week, keeping Southern California in a persistent midsummer weather pattern.
