Glasgow, Montana – Travel across eastern Montana could become hazardous within hours as a wintry mix turns to steady snow Thursday night, leading to slick roads and reduced visibility into Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for parts of northeast Montana, including areas near Glendive, Sidney, and Wolf Point. Precipitation will begin as a mix of rain and snow before transitioning to all snow overnight, though the exact timing of that change remains uncertain.
Snow totals are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches across much of the region, with locally higher amounts possible depending on when the transition to snow occurs. Roads may quickly become snow-covered, especially on rural highways and untreated surfaces.
Beyond travel concerns, the system may also impact agriculture, with stress expected for newborn livestock exposed to cold, wet conditions.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and check conditions before heading out. Impacts will continue through Friday before conditions gradually improve later in the day.
