Davenport, Iowa – Heavy rain is set to drench eastern Iowa overnight, with flooding concerns building before sunrise Thursday as storms reload across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, widespread rainfall will expand north between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday, bringing 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated pockets exceeding 3 inches—especially west of the Mississippi River. Areas along and west of Interstate 380 face the highest flooding concern, where rainfall rates could exceed 0.25 inches per hour.

Cities including Davenport, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Burlington could see water ponding on roads and rapid rises on small streams. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and monitor conditions during the early commute, particularly on low-lying routes and near creeks.

By Thursday afternoon and evening, the threat shifts from rain to severe storms. A Level 2 risk covers much of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, with damaging winds and tornadoes possible.

Another round of strong storms is already lining up for Friday, keeping the region under an active and potentially hazardous weather pattern through the end of the week.
