Wilmington, Ohio – Blue skies and warm summer air are giving southwest Ohio a welcome break late Monday morning, but the quiet weather won’t last. Conditions remain favorable for outdoor plans today, while meteorologists are closely tracking a stronger storm system expected to move into the region on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, no hazardous weather is expected through the remainder of Monday. Temperatures will climb to around 85 degrees under mostly sunny skies, with only a few patches of lingering wildfire smoke possible before early afternoon. Light east winds will become nearly calm, making for a pleasant midsummer day.

The weather pattern shifts noticeably on Tuesday as a cold front approaches from the northwest. Showers and thunderstorms become increasingly likely during the day, with an 80% chance of rainfall and storms becoming more widespread after the afternoon hours.

The National Weather Service says some Tuesday storms could become severe, producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, isolated tornadoes and torrential rainfall capable of creating localized flash flooding. Travelers along Interstate 71, U.S. 68 and State Route 73 should monitor changing conditions and allow extra travel time as visibility could quickly deteriorate in heavier downpours.

By Wednesday, much cooler and drier air settles across southwest Ohio. Sunshine returns with afternoon highs around 76 degrees, followed by another stretch of comfortable summer weather into Thursday and Friday.

Looking farther ahead, longer-range outlooks continue to suggest temperatures may trend above seasonal averages later next week. For now, enjoy today’s quiet weather while using the day to prepare for Tuesday’s more active pattern.
