Louisville, Kentucky – Scattered thunderstorms could disrupt travel across north central Kentucky and southern Indiana this afternoon, with gusty winds developing during peak commute hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, showers and storms are expected between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. across the region, including Louisville, Elizabethtown, and southern Indiana cities like Jeffersonville and New Albany. While the overall severe risk remains low, a few stronger storms could produce gusty straight-line winds.
Drivers along I-64, I-65, and I-71 may encounter sudden downpours and reduced visibility, especially during the late afternoon and early evening. Breezy south winds and warm temperatures in the upper 70s to mid-80s will help fuel storm development.
Widespread severe weather is not expected, but isolated stronger cells could still cause minor impacts, including downed small branches and brief power flickers.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware during the afternoon and evening hours and monitor alerts in case stronger storms develop. Conditions remain warm through Saturday, with additional rain chances possible.
