Austin, Texas – The morning sun is already taking command across Central Texas, and the comfortable hours are fading fast. Sidewalks are warming, the air feels increasingly sticky, and another stretch of intense summer heat is unfolding across the Austin metro as the afternoon approaches.

Temperatures will climb steadily through late Monday morning, reaching 97 degrees this afternoon. According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, heat index values could reach 101 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors during the hottest part of the day.

Light south to southwest winds around 5 mph will provide little relief. Drivers along Interstate 35, MoPac Loop 1, U.S. Highway 183, and State Highway 71 should expect glaring sunshine and increasing pavement temperatures through the afternoon commute. Anyone working or exercising outside should take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and limit strenuous activity during peak heating.

The heat becomes even more intense Tuesday as highs approach 99 degrees, with heat index values climbing to 102 degrees. Wednesday appears to be the hottest day of the week, reaching 101 degrees under sunny skies. The prolonged stretch of above-normal temperatures will increase cooling demands across Central Texas and could elevate the risk of heat-related illnesses.

By Thursday, temperatures remain near 100 degrees, though the overall weather pattern begins showing subtle changes. A slight chance of showers develops later in the week, with a 20 percent chance of showers Friday. While widespread rainfall is not expected, isolated storms could offer brief cooling in some neighborhoods.

Elsewhere across the nation, wildfire smoke continues affecting parts of the Upper Midwest, while severe thunderstorms track east along a cold front. Those systems are expected to remain well north of Texas, leaving Central Texas under persistent summer heat through midweek.
