Columbus, Ohio – Storms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across central and southwest Ohio within hours as a window for strong thunderstorms opens between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. today.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Level 1 out of 5 severe weather risk is in place for much of the region, including Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati. While storms will be scattered, any stronger cell could produce damaging wind gusts, along with pockets of heavy rainfall and small hail.
Wind remains the primary concern, with brief gusts capable of knocking down small limbs and reducing visibility on roadways like I-70, I-71, and I-75. Sudden downpours may also lead to water-covered roads during peak travel hours this afternoon and early evening.
Communities across southwest and central Ohio should remain alert for rapidly developing storms, especially during the late afternoon commute window. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and monitor warnings through mobile alerts.
Storm activity is expected to taper off after 8 p.m., but additional updates may be issued if stronger cells develop.
