Old Forge, New York – Rising water levels across the Adirondacks are keeping flood concerns elevated this morning, with rivers and creeks continuing to swell after days of heavy rain and melting snow.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday evening for Hamilton and Herkimer counties. Rainfall totals between 1 and 3 inches have already fallen, with an additional 0.25 to 0.5 inches expected through tonight.

Communities including Old Forge, Long Lake, and Little Falls are seeing increased runoff as water moves through rivers and smaller streams. Snowmelt from higher elevations is adding to the flow, increasing the likelihood of waterways rising out of their banks.

Low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially near creeks and rural roads, may experience standing water or minor flooding. Areas around the Mohawk River and smaller tributaries could see continued rises throughout the day.

Residents should avoid flooded roadways, monitor local alerts, and be prepared to act quickly if warnings are issued.

The flood threat is expected to gradually diminish later Wednesday evening, but elevated water levels may linger into the overnight hours.
