Coldwater, MI– Storms capable of strong wind gusts and frequent lightning could move through southern Michigan Tuesday afternoon, raising the risk of brief power outages and hazardous driving conditions near the Indiana border.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 78 remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday for Branch and Hillsdale counties in southern Michigan as a line of unstable air spreads across the region.
Communities including Coldwater, Bronson, Hillsdale, and Jonesville could see storms strengthen through the late afternoon hours. Heavy rain may lead to ponding on roadways such as U.S. 12 and M-86, particularly during the evening commute.
Forecasters warn that wind gusts could reach levels strong enough to snap small tree limbs or toss unsecured outdoor items. Residents are urged to bring loose objects indoors and seek shelter immediately if thunder is heard.
The storm threat should diminish after sunset, though meteorologists will continue monitoring conditions in case stronger cells develop before the watch expires Tuesday evening.
