Erie, PA – Strong thunderstorms could sweep across northwest Pennsylvania Tuesday evening, bringing the threat of damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, and frequent lightning through the Erie region.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday for Erie and Crawford counties. Storms developing across northern Ohio are expected to track east toward the Lake Erie shoreline, where atmospheric conditions may support stronger wind-producing cells.

Cities including Erie, Meadville, Edinboro, and Corry could see brief but intense storms capable of producing wind gusts strong enough to down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages. Drivers along Interstate 90, Interstate 79, and Route 6 should prepare for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during the evening commute.

The threat also extends to communities along the Lake Erie shoreline, where storms moving over the lake may strengthen before reaching land. Lightning and gusty winds could create dangerous conditions for boaters and those near marinas or open shoreline areas.

Emergency managers recommend securing outdoor furniture, charging mobile devices in case of outages, and moving indoors when thunder is heard. Residents should keep weather alerts enabled on their phones as storms move through the region.

The strongest storms are expected to taper later Tuesday night, though additional watches or warnings could be issued if storms intensify before the system exits northwest Pennsylvania.
