Amarillo, Texas – Easter Sunday travel across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles could feel raw and slow at times as cold rain settles in, bringing below-normal temperatures during peak holiday travel hours.
According to the National Weather Service, this 6-to-10 day outlook favors below-normal temperatures across the southern Plains, with periodic rain chances continuing through midweek. The combination will create a chilly and damp pattern across the region.
In Amarillo, Dalhart, and Borger, steady light rain may develop early Sunday between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m., leading to wet roadways along I-40, U.S. 287, and Highway 87. Visibility may briefly drop during steadier showers, especially during morning travel tied to Easter services.
Across the Oklahoma Panhandle, including Guymon and Boise City, similar conditions are expected, with cold rain and temperatures struggling to climb out of the 50s during the day. Morning temperatures may start in the 40s, adding to the chilly feel.
The persistent cloud cover and damp conditions could force outdoor Easter egg hunts and gatherings indoors, especially during the morning and midday hours.
This cooler, wet pattern holds through April 9, with additional rounds of light rain possible and continued impacts to travel and outdoor plans.
