Cleveland, Ohio – Severe storms are expected to erupt within hours across northern Ohio, with the most dangerous conditions developing between 2 p.m. and midnight and threatening travel, power, and safety across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Level 2 severe weather risk covers the entire area, with storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail larger than 1 inch, and a possible tornado or two. Multiple rounds of storms are expected, increasing the chance for repeated impacts through the evening.
Cities including Cleveland, Akron, Elyria, and Youngstown are in the primary impact zone, with storms expected to intensify as they move east. Major corridors such as I-90, I-77, and I-71 could see rapidly deteriorating conditions, including torrential rain, reduced visibility, and ponding water on roadways.
Rainfall totals between 0.75 and 1.75 inches may lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Power outages are also possible where stronger winds or lightning occur.
Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and be ready to move indoors quickly as storms approach. Warnings are likely as storms develop, with the threat continuing through midnight.
