Little Rock, Ark. – Residents across Arkansas should prepare now for increasing storm chances later this week, with heavier rainfall expected to develop by Friday and continue into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, above-average temperatures will persist through midweek, with highs climbing into the upper 70s and 80s across much of the state. Conditions will remain warm and breezy through Wednesday before showers and thunderstorms begin to redevelop Thursday.
The greatest rainfall totals are expected across western and northwestern Arkansas, including Fayetteville, Fort Smith, and Harrison, where between 2 and 3 inches of rain could fall by the end of the week. Central areas such as Little Rock, Russellville, and Hot Springs may see between 1.5 and 2 inches, while eastern sections trend slightly lower.
Storm chances increase significantly Friday into Saturday as a cold front approaches, raising the risk for locally heavy rain and isolated strong storms. Roads may become slick during heavier downpours, especially along I-40 and I-30 corridors.
Temperatures will begin to cool by the weekend, with more seasonable conditions returning into early next week. Additional updates are likely as rainfall totals and storm strength become clearer.
