Philadelphia, Pa. – Near-record warmth is surging into the region today, pushing temperatures into the low 80s and setting the stage for isolated thunderstorms that could turn severe by this evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, highs will climb into the mid-70s to low 80s across much of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Spotty showers will develop through the afternoon and continue into tonight, mainly northwest of the I-95 corridor.

The greatest concern centers near and northwest of I-78, including Allentown, Reading, and nearby communities, where a stronger storm could produce damaging wind gusts approaching 60 mph. While storm coverage remains limited, any cell that strengthens could quickly impact travel and outdoor plans.

Philadelphia, Wilmington, and Trenton may see brief showers, but the higher severe risk stays inland. Drivers should watch for sudden downpours and reduced visibility, especially during the evening hours.

Residents are encouraged to monitor conditions, secure outdoor items, and be ready to move indoors if storms develop nearby. Shower and storm chances will diminish overnight, with additional updates possible if stronger storms form late today.
