Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A Flood Watch is in effect through midnight tonight for portions of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia as another round of heavy rain and thunderstorms threatens areas already soaked by earlier rainfall. Repeated downpours could quickly lead to flash flooding, especially across higher elevations and nearby valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, the Flood Watch covers portions of southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, including areas that received heavy rain earlier today. Forecasters warn that thunderstorms capable of producing repeated heavy rainfall may move over the same locations this afternoon and evening, significantly increasing the risk of flooding.

Communities including Pittsburgh, Washington, Uniontown, Butler, Greensburg, Wheeling, Morgantown, Steubenville and surrounding higher elevations of western Pennsylvania should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Low-lying roads, creeks, streams and poor-drainage areas are especially vulnerable to flooding if storms repeatedly impact the same locations.

Motorists should be prepared for water-covered roads, rapidly changing visibility and possible road closures during the evening. Residents living near small streams or flood-prone areas should closely monitor weather updates and be ready to move to higher ground if flooding develops.

The Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight tonight, and additional Flash Flood Warnings may be issued if heavy rain becomes more widespread. Never drive through flooded roadways, as floodwaters can rise quickly and may conceal washed-out pavement or other hazards.
