Shreveport, Louisiana – A prolonged stretch of dangerous summer heat is set to intensify across the ArkLaTex next week, with many communities expected to reach or exceed 100 degrees as a strong upper-level ridge builds over the region. While humidity levels may ease slightly, the combination of persistent heat and several consecutive days of triple-digit temperatures will continue to create hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the risk of extreme heat will steadily increase through the middle of next week, with widespread highs between 100 and 102 degrees expected across much of northeast Texas, northwest Louisiana, southwest Arkansas and southeast Oklahoma. The National Weather Service’s HeatRisk outlook indicates major heat impacts for much of the region by midweek, increasing the likelihood of heat-related illness without proper precautions.

Cities including Shreveport, Bossier City, Texarkana, Longview, Tyler, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Ruston, Monroe, Hope and El Dorado are expected to experience several days of dangerous heat. Forecast highs include 101 degrees in Shreveport, 102 in Bossier City, 102 in Longview, 101 in Tyler, and 100 to 101 degrees across much of the remainder of the ArkLaTex by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. Check on older adults, young children and anyone without reliable cooling, and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

The hot pattern is expected to persist through much of next week, with little relief during the overnight hours. Continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service, as additional heat advisories or extreme heat warnings may be issued as temperatures continue to climb.
