Paducah, Kentucky – Dangerous heat and humidity will continue across western Kentucky and the surrounding Four-State region through early next week, with a Heat Advisory taking effect late this morning as heat index values climb into the triple digits. Conditions are expected to become even more oppressive by Tuesday, when feels-like temperatures could reach 111 degrees in some locations.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the Heat Advisory remains in effect from late this morning through Tuesday afternoon. Heat index values are expected to range from 98 to 105 degrees through Monday before increasing to 105 to 111 degrees on Tuesday. The prolonged stretch of heat will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for people working or spending extended periods outdoors.
The advisory includes communities across western Kentucky, southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and southwest Indiana, including Paducah, Murray, Mayfield, Marion, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Farmington, Mount Vernon and portions of the Evansville area.
Residents should drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon, wear lightweight clothing and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings. Check on older adults, young children and anyone without reliable cooling, and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
Relief is expected to arrive late Tuesday as a cold front moves through the region, bringing temperatures back to near or slightly below normal by the middle of the week. Until then, continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service, as additional heat alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
