Louisville, Kentucky – Bright sunshine is already warming pavement across Louisville, but the quiet start won’t last forever. The afternoon brings summer heat, while several rounds of thunderstorms later in the period could interrupt travel and outdoor plans as the pattern becomes more active through early next week.

Temperatures are climbing quickly across the Ohio Valley as another stretch of hot, humid weather settles over Kentucky and southern Indiana. According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, skies remain mostly sunny through much of today with a high near 92 degrees. While much of the daylight hours stay dry, isolated thunderstorms could begin developing later, marking the beginning of an increasingly unsettled pattern.

The first round of showers and thunderstorms becomes more likely late tonight into early Sunday, though coverage remains scattered. Sunday stays warm with a high near 89 degrees, and only isolated afternoon thunderstorms are expected. The tornado threat remains low, but any stronger storm could briefly produce gusty winds, heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.

Monday offers another mostly sunny day with highs around 90 degrees, giving residents a short break before the next, more widespread system approaches. By Tuesday, rain chances increase significantly. Showers and thunderstorms become likely during the afternoon and evening, with locally heavy rain capable of slowing travel on Interstates 64, 65 and 71, as well as the Gene Snyder Freeway.

Meteorologists continue tracking this evolving pattern as moisture increases across the Ohio Valley. Drivers should allow extra travel time during heavier downpours, reduce speed on wet roads and remain alert for rapidly changing visibility. If thunder roars, move indoors and postpone outdoor recreation until storms pass.

Beyond Tuesday, cooler and drier air arrives by Wednesday with highs falling into the middle 80s. Looking farther ahead into the 6-to-10-day outlook, above-normal temperatures are favored to return across much of the region later next week, keeping the summer pattern firmly in place.
