Dodge City, Kansas – Strong north winds up to 45 mph are set to ramp up across southwest Kansas by midday Tuesday, creating difficult driving conditions on open highways and high-profile vehicle routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, sustained winds between 20 and 30 mph will develop through the day, with higher gusts peaking near 45 mph. Skies will trend cloudier as the day progresses, while temperatures climb into the 60s and 70s across the region.
The strongest winds are expected across areas including Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, and Pratt, where crosswinds could impact travel along U.S. Highway 50, U.S. 83, and U.S. 400. Blowing dust may also reduce visibility in rural areas, especially in freshly plowed fields.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, use caution when driving high-profile vehicles, and remain alert for sudden wind gusts. Outdoor burning is discouraged due to elevated fire spread risk under these windy conditions.
Wind impacts will persist into Tuesday evening before gradually easing, though additional updates may be issued if conditions intensify across southwest Kansas.
