Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A narrow evening window between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. could bring damaging storms capable of downing trees and disrupting overnight travel across western Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Level 2 of 5 severe weather risk is in place for much of the region, with the highest threat focused north of Pittsburgh toward Butler, Mercer, and Clarion. Storms developing ahead of an approaching cold front may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

The strongest storms are expected to move through during the late evening hours, impacting communities along I-79, I-76, and I-80. Areas farther south, including Washington and Morgantown, face a lower but still notable risk for strong storms.

Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm timing, and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Charge devices before storms arrive, as power outages are possible with stronger wind gusts.

The severe threat will continue into the early Wednesday morning hours, and additional watches or warnings may be issued as storms develop and track across the region.
