Albuquerque, New Mexico – Record-breaking heat surged across New Mexico Monday, with multiple cities tying or setting new highs as temperatures climbed well above seasonal norms.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, several locations either broke or tied records, including Tucumcari reaching 90°F, surpassing its previous record of 87°F. Portales hit 89°F, breaking a record that stood since 1946, while Farmington climbed to 80°F and Gallup reached 76°F—both setting new daily records.

In Albuquerque, temperatures reached 82°F, tying a record last set in 2010. Las Vegas, New Mexico also tied its record at 75°F. These readings represent temperatures running roughly 10 to 15 degrees above normal for late March.

The widespread warmth impacted much of central and eastern New Mexico, increasing early-season demand for cooling and raising concerns about dry conditions across the region.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, and remain mindful of fire risk as warm, dry conditions persist.

Above-average temperatures are expected to continue into Tuesday, with additional records possible before cooler conditions gradually return later in the week.
