Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Temperatures are set to surge into record territory across the Delaware Valley by Tuesday afternoon, with some cities climbing more than 20 degrees above normal and threatening long-standing records.

According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, highs could reach 82°F in Philadelphia, 86°F in Allentown and Reading, and 85°F in Atlantic City on Tuesday. Several of these values are within striking distance of records set in 1998 and earlier, with some locations also challenging record warm overnight lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

The heat will stretch across southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware, impacting cities including Trenton, Wilmington, and Mount Pocono. In Mount Pocono, temperatures near 81°F could tie a long-standing record, while Wilmington may approach 82°F.

This early-season warmth could affect energy demand and outdoor activity, especially during peak afternoon hours. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on vulnerable individuals.

The unusual warmth continues into Wednesday, when additional records may be challenged before cooler air gradually returns later in the week.
