Cleveland, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms could begin impacting travel and outdoor plans by mid-afternoon Tuesday, with gusty winds and heavy rain targeting northern Ohio.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, an active weather pattern will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms developing Tuesday afternoon and continuing into the evening hours. Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, with sustained winds between 10 and 20 mph as storms move through.

The greatest impacts are expected along the Lake Erie shoreline, including Cleveland, Lorain, and Ashtabula, as well as inland areas near Akron and Canton. Major routes such as I-90, I-71, and I-77 could see reduced visibility and ponding during heavier downpours, especially during the evening commute.

In addition to wind, heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Storm timing remains somewhat uncertain, but the primary window for impacts is between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, monitor alerts, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. More updates and possible advisories may be issued as the system develops.
