Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – The threat of freezing temperatures has likely ended for the season, giving residents a green light to move forward with early spring planting and outdoor prep.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Philadelphia typically sees its last spring freeze around March 30, and this year appears to be right on schedule. The city already dipped to 31 degrees Sunday morning, marking what is expected to be the final freeze of the season.

No additional freezing temperatures are expected through the upcoming weekend, allowing for more stable conditions across southeastern Pennsylvania. Gardeners and homeowners can begin transitioning plants outdoors with less concern for frost damage in the short term.

Despite the warmer stretch, a cooldown is expected early next week that could bring below-average temperatures, though not cold enough to trigger another freeze based on current projections.

Historically, Philadelphia’s last freeze has occurred as early as March 8 and as late as May 11, highlighting how variable spring conditions can be. Residents should still monitor updates, but for now, the growing season is effectively underway.
