Rockford, IL – A Wisconsin man is facing a felony charge after Illinois State Police investigators alleged he falsely reported his vehicle stolen following a crash in Winnebago County last year.

According to the Illinois State Police, special agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 2 took Danny S. White, 62, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, into custody on Thursday, July 10, 2026, on one count of Obstruction of Justice, a Class 4 felony.

The charge stems from an investigation that began on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, when Illinois State Police responded to a crash near Interstate 39 and Baxter Road in Winnebago County. Authorities said the vehicle involved in the crash was left at the scene.

Following what investigators described as an extensive investigation, special agents determined White allegedly filed a false report claiming the vehicle had been stolen.

According to ISP, investigators submitted their findings to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved the case and obtained an arrest warrant for White.

Illinois State Police said White later turned himself in on July 10, 2026. No additional details about the investigation or the circumstances surrounding the alleged false report were released.

A charge is not evidence of guilt. White is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
