New Baltimore, MI – A 20-year-old jet ski passenger was safely rescued after falling into the waters of Anchor Bay during a ride Saturday evening, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, Marine Division deputies assigned to Patrol Boat #2 responded to an emergency call from the U.S. Coast Guard regarding a missing jet ski passenger in Anchor Bay on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

Investigators said a 19-year-old man from Macomb Township was operating the jet ski with a 20-year-old passenger, also from Macomb Township. The pair had launched from Brandenburg Park and traveled to Cabana Blue Lakefront Grill in Clay Township.

While returning to Brandenburg Park, deputies said the jet ski encountered rough water, causing the passenger to fall into the bay. The operator did not immediately realize the passenger had fallen off and searched the area but was unable to find him.

During the search, another vessel approached Marine Division deputies and reported locating the passenger floating approximately one-quarter mile offshore, just north of Brandenburg Park. The boater safely transported the passenger to deputies, who then took him to Walter and Mary Burke Park in New Baltimore for evaluation.

Authorities said the passenger reported no injuries and declined further medical treatment.

According to the sheriff’s office, both men were wearing properly fitted personal flotation devices (PFDs), which played a critical role in the successful rescue.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is reminding all personal watercraft operators to wear life jackets, monitor passengers closely, and use extra caution when operating in rough water conditions.
