Detroit, MI – Dangerous heat will continue across southeast Michigan Tuesday, prompting a Heat Advisory as temperatures climb well into the 90s and heat index values top 100 degrees in some communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday for much of southeast Michigan. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s, while humidity will push heat index values into the upper 90s and lower 100s, with isolated readings above 100 degrees possible, especially across the Saginaw Valley and Metro Detroit.

Forecasters say Tuesday will be the hottest day of the week, with warm overnight temperatures only falling into the lower to middle 70s, offering little relief from the prolonged stretch of heat.

Hot weather will continue through Wednesday and Thursday, although daytime highs will gradually ease into the upper 80s to lower 90s. Despite the slight cooldown, humid conditions will keep afternoons feeling uncomfortable, and cumulative heat stress remains a concern for anyone spending extended periods outdoors.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and check on older adults, young children and neighbors without reliable air conditioning. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

The weather pattern becomes more active by the end of the week. The National Weather Service says the next chance for showers and thunderstorms arrives Friday and Saturday, bringing a break from the prolonged dry stretch, though warm and humid conditions are expected to continue.
