Lincoln, Maine – Slippery roads are expected to develop quickly across central and eastern Maine by Tuesday evening as freezing rain and light snow move into the region ahead of the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 11 a.m. Wednesday for Central Penobscot, Southern Piscataquis, and Northern Washington counties. Snow and sleet accumulations up to 1 inch are expected, along with ice totals around one-tenth of an inch.

Communities including Lincoln, Dover-Foxcroft, Danforth, and Springfield will see the most consistent icing overnight, with untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses becoming slick. Travel along I-95, Route 6, and Route 11 could be impacted, especially during the early morning commute Wednesday when conditions are expected to be at their worst.

Limited visibility and icy surfaces may slow traffic and increase the risk of accidents during peak travel hours. Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra braking distance, and check Maine 511 for real-time road conditions before heading out.

Residents are urged to treat walkways and avoid unnecessary travel during peak icing periods. The advisory remains in effect through late Wednesday morning, with updates possible if ice accumulations increase.
