Boston, MA – Dangerous heat and humidity are expected to continue across much of southern New England through Wednesday evening, prompting a Heat Advisory as “feels-like” temperatures climb into the triple digits.
According to the National Weather Service in Boston, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday for much of southern New England, excluding the Berkshires and Cape Cod and Islands.
Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s, while elevated humidity will push heat index values between 95 and 103 degrees during the hottest part of both days.
Communities including Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Providence, Hartford, Manchester, Concord, New Haven, Lowell, and Lawrence are expected to experience the most oppressive heat. Officials warn that prolonged exposure to the heat could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those without access to air conditioning.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon, and spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. Electric fans alone may not provide enough cooling during periods of extreme heat.
Officials also remind everyone to never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.
The heat is expected to ease after Wednesday evening as weather conditions gradually become less oppressive.
