Glasgow, MT – Dangerous heat will continue across northeast Montana today, with the National Weather Service extending an Extreme Heat Warning for parts of the region as temperatures climb into the upper 90s and lower 100s.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, the Extreme Heat Warning has been extended until 2 a.m. Thursday for communities along and east of the Yellowstone River. Much of the rest of northeast Montana remains under a Heat Advisory through 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Afternoon high temperatures are expected to reach the 90s across most of the region, with readings near or above 100 degrees along and east of the Yellowstone River. The most dangerous conditions are expected between Terry, Glendive, and Sidney, where the heat index could reach as high as 110 degrees.
Communities including Glasgow, Glendive, Sidney, Terry, Circle, Wolf Point, Jordan, Malta, Winnett, Culbertson, Plentywood, and Scobey will experience hot conditions capable of causing heat-related illnesses if precautions are not taken.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks if working outdoors, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon. Officials also remind everyone to never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, where interior temperatures can become deadly within minutes.
Anyone without access to air conditioning should seek cooler locations during peak heating hours and check on elderly neighbors, young children, and others who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat.
