Portage, IN – A 43-year-old Union Township man was killed Friday night after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck at a busy Portage intersection, according to the Portage Police Department.

According to Portage police, officers responded at approximately 9:13 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2026, to the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and Swanson Road following reports of a crash involving a motorcycle. Emergency dispatchers were advised that an off-duty nurse had stopped to provide CPR to the injured rider before first responders arrived.

The preliminary investigation determined a 2015 GMC Sierra, driven by a 35-year-old Hobart man, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 6 through the intersection when it was struck on the passenger side by a 2015 Yamaha YW50/Zuma traveling northbound on Swanson Road.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Sean McLinn, 43, of Union Township, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, witness statements indicate the motorcycle disregarded the red traffic signal for northbound traffic before entering the intersection. Police said the driver of the GMC Sierra was not injured and showed no signs of impairment. Initial testing found no alcohol in the driver’s system.

Authorities said toxicology results for McLinn are pending as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Portage Police Department extended its condolences to McLinn’s family and thanked the Portage Fire Department, the Porter County Coroner’s Office, and the off-duty nurse who rendered aid at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
